Visiting the centreWe value the generous support of our friends. Without your support we would not be able to operate. We create a safe and nurturing environment in which our participants learn and thrive. They have the right to a safe and private environment. We protect our program participants by impacting on this environment as little as possible.
Visits can be organised by emailing us. Upon arranging a time for a visit we will provide you with an agreement to sign, which contains some information concerning photography guidelines, confidentiality and cultural considerations at the centre. |
Responsible in-country VolunteeringWe love having volunteers but we are committed to responsible volunteering. Consequently we are only able to accept in-country volunteers if there is a particular demand for a skill or project. We are very conscious about impacting as little as possible on the normal day-to-day running of the centre.
Projects are chosen based on the needs and wishes of the local people who know their environment and their requirements well. We seek the help of volunteers for these various predetermined projects for medium and longer-term commitments. Volunteers are matched with reference to their skills and experience. An induction is provided, and volunteers are required to obtain a working with children clearance (free for Victorian residents for the purpose of volunteering) and sign an agreement relating to photography and conduct guidelines. We also avoid denying qualified local people the opportunity to earn a wage by replacing them with volunteers. As such, projects are managed in partnership with paid local staff with input and assistance from volunteers. Teaching volunteers are welcome if a need permits. Non-qualified teaching volunteers assist our local teachers in the classroom by focusing on reading and pronunciation during English classes, while qualified teaching volunteers consult with our teachers on lesson plans and curriculum. You will never be charged a fee to volunteer with us but you will be required to cover all of your own expenses (food, accommodation, transport, insurance etc). Please contact us for information on upcoming opportunities. Further, should you have a particular project in mind you would like to pitch, we’d love to hear from you. Email us for a copy of our project plan template. |
